Walk'n Right

Mann Mustangs-

As we enter the home stretch of the school year, lets reinforce the Mustang Motto, specifically HALLWAY BEHAVIOR

WHOEvery homeroom

WHAT:
When homerooms are caught 'Walk'n Right' in the halls, other teachers and staff will take the time to acknowledge their behavior by giving their class a 'Big Walk'n Right'  Horseshoe Hooray.

Once a homeroom receives 10 HS's, they can have a class celebration, acknowledgment during morning announcements and the teacher will receive a prize too!!

They will decide as a homeroom what their reward/incentive should be.

WHEN
: Any time a teacher or staff member catches a homeroom Walk'n Right!!

WHY
:   To reinforce the appropriate hallway behavior

According to the behavior matrix (the gold Mustang Motto behavior outline posted in your classroom) Walkin' Right includes:

Be Respectful

  • silent voices
  • personal space
  • hands, feet, and objects to self
Be Responsible
  • Keep it neat, single file line
  • Stay to the right
  • Keep our school clean
Be Compassionate
  • Silent Hello
  • Smile
  • Let others pass
  • Say please and thank you

FEBRUARY FLIP FLOP

MUSTANG MOTTO DAY  - THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 17th

FEBRUARY FLIP FLOP

This month we're flipping it up!! It's a little too cold to wear flip flops so we're asking our teachers to 'flip flop'. Thursday 2/17, each teacher will trade places with another teacher in a different grade level and present an activity or lesson to their "new" class. This will require a lot of creativity and bravery as our intermediate grade teachers venture into the world of primary grades!! The students will be pleasantly surprised and should have a ball. We know the students are ready......teachers are YOU ready?

The horseshoe hooray store will be open as well.

Parents remember to reinforce the 3 B's at home and in the community, here's a few examples generated by 3rd graders:
  • Encouraging your child to pitch in and help
  • Listen to your parents, don't talk back
  • Assign household chores and duties to instill a sense of responsibity
  • Emphasize the importance of being considerate of others
  • Use "fair fighting' rules: Use "I" messages, walk away to calm down, be willing to compromise
  • Volunteer at the animal shelter
  • Don't liter
  • Help your neighbors
  • Donate unwanted toys and clothes
  • Don't waste paper

SNOWFLAKES and HOT COCOA

MUSTANG MOTTO DAY WILL BE 1/19/2011:
HOT COCOA and SNOWFLAKES
*HSH Store will NOT be open on MMD 1/19. The date for January will be announced soon.

Welcome 2011....in December we did the Cha-Cha Slide into the new year!! It was big fun and ALL of the students and staff had a blast. Now lets settle in for the cold winter months, sip hot cocoa and make snowflakes (as if we need more!!). This is the one of the staff's, parents' and student's favorite celebration of the year.
  • Who: Each entire grade gathers to socialize, enjoy hot chocolate and cut out snowflakes which are then hung around the building. (We use Mann's recycled paper.)
  • When: Wednesday morning, January 19th
  • Where: cafeteria
  • Why: Celebrating respect, responsibility & compassion shown by students
Here is the schedule:
8:15-8:45 - 2nd grade
8:45-9:15 - 1st grade
9:15-9:45 - kindergarten
9:45-10:10 - 5th grade
10:10-10:35 - 3rd  grade
10:35-11:00 - 4th grade

Thanks to Carrie Bankes and parents volunteers who make this celebration a success. As a parent if you're interested in volunteering to help distribute hot cocoa and/or help cut and hang snowflakes please contact me: mcollins@op97.org or Carrie Bankes: carrie@bankes.us

December Celebrations

The next PBIS all school celebration will be:
Thursday, December 16th - The Cha Cha Slide & Staff Appreciation Luncheon!!!

Mann mustangs will slide their way into 2011!!! At 2:20pm, the Cha Cha Slide will play over the intercom and over 500 students and staff members will drop everything ans dance!! The first trimester is over and we've had great success, academically and socially. Mustangs are working hard to make good choices and earn horse shoe hoorays! Students and staff alike value the importance of positive reinforcement of desired behaviors. It helps create a positive and healthy culture within the school.

As we make plans for winter break and begin thinking about our new year's resolutions, encourage your child to incorporate the 3 B's into their resolutions.  Examples for home:
  1. Respectful at home by following directions
  2. Responsible: cleaning up their toys, completing chores, and managing their behavior
  3. Compassionate: using kind words with siblings and family, helping out when needed
By reinforcing these skills at home, they will definitely generalize to school, group or team activities and in the community.

Have a Great Winter Break!!!
